Student Levy Opt-Out Procedure

1. Opt-Out Overview:

There are a number of levies at York that were established with the provision that students may opt-out of paying them. This provision to opt-out was requested by the organization’s who receive the levy themselves.

To see what fees you are paying, please visit http://sfs.yorku.ca/fees/courses/index.php and under the New Students category, select your Faculty/Program to see which levy fees you are paying and which ones you are may opt-out of (these fees are noted by an asterisk). Depending on your Faculty, you may be able to opt out of the following levies:

1. Centre for Women and Trans People Room 322 Student Centre
2. Ontario Public Interest Research Group (OPIRG) Room C449 Student Centre
3. Sexual Assault Survivors Support Line & Leadership (SASSL) Room B449 Student Centre
4. World University Service of Canada (WUSC) Centre For Refugee Studies - 8th Floor, York Research Tower

These groups, together with Student Community & Leadership Development have created the following process and form for you to exercise your right to opt-out and receive this levy money back. At OPIRG-York, this is 10 cents per credit that you can be reimbursed.

2. Opt-Out Refund Window:

For the 2013-2014 year, the opt out refund window will go from November 11– 22. For OPIRG-York, the time for opt-out hours at OPIRG-York is the following:

Monday Nov. 11th from 6 – 8pm
Tuesday Nov. 12th from 3 – 6pm
Wednesday Nov. 13th from 10 – 1pm
Thursday Nov. 14th from 2 – 5pm
Monday Nov. 18th from 6 – 8pm
Tuesday Nov. 19th from 10 – 12pm
Wednesday Nov. 20th from 5 – 7pm
Thursday Nov. 21st from 10 – 12pm

3. Opt-Out Application Form and Refund Process:

To receive the levy refund, you must submit the following to each organization that you wish to opt out of:
a. print out of timetable that is dated between November 11 - 22
b. photocopy of YU Card
c. completion of opt out form available at the respective office

Your form will be reviewed by the appropriate coordinator of the organization and a refund will be issued before end of the fall term.
Student Community & Leadership Development will, on behalf of an organization, accept appeals or deal with any other discrepancy.
